Day1
Standing desk blog
Today 9/12/2017 I got my new standing desk. I really love it. It gives me a lot of flexibility that I did
not have before. I often work 8 hours a
day where I am on conference calls most of the day. This limits my freedom. I am tied to my desk the entire day. With quick bathroom breaks and ½ an hour for
lunch. Then it is back to work and
sitting. Now the standing desk I can
stand, or sit and run for my breaks and be right back at my desk. I can pace, jog in place or just stand.
I find that wearing one pair of shoes daily is not all that
great. I have several pairs that I keep
switching form one pair to another. As a
woman we are often wearing heals which are ok if you sit most of the day and do
not do a lot walking, but if you stand a lot the heals are not conducive to
standing. I therefore spend time going
from one pair of shoes to another. I
find this much more comfortable and lets me spend more time standing and less
time sitting.
I just read a an article of a study that was performed and
reported in brief on the Harvard health educational website (https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/the-truth-behind-standing-desks-2016092310264)
which says that the jury is still out if the standing desk is better than
sitting all day. I can attest to the
fact that standing is far better in brief bouts than sitting all day. If for no other reason than your enjoyment of
the day.
I have had the desk for less than a day at this point and I
feel better overall than I did sitting down all day. I feel like I am empowered within my daily task,
my decisions and my overall attitude about work in general. I also, find myself pacing, jogging in place
and teetering back and forth. All
activities that have to be better than sitting in a chair with nowhere to
go. Plus I am working. Working the whole time where many times, I
feel sleeping, anxious and even sore from just sitting on my keister hour after
hour.
